Kanpo(actually it should be Kampo) no yado is ryokan type inns and hotels owned and operated by Japan Post Holdings, which subsidiaries are Japan Post, Japan Post bank, Japan Post insurance and etc.
Before the privatization of postal service in Japan, the ryokans and hotels are exclusively for the Japanese insured in the postal insurance. However, after the privatization in October 2007, everyone including foreigners can stay at these ryokans and hotels without any conditions. All hotels and ryokans offer large bathing rooms and most of them are onsen; hot springs with outdoor bath.
Kanpo no yado operates 36 ryokans and hotels throughout Japan, almost in all prefectures including Tokyo. On the other hand, they do not have hotel or ryokan in Hokkaido and Okinawa.
