Hakata Gion Yamakasa

The float of Yamakasa at JR Hakata station, Fukuoka.

Hakata Gion Yamakasa; widely called just Yamakasa is one of the major festivals which take place in Fukuoka city, Fukuoka prefecture in Kyushu island. Then, the festival is organized by Kushida shrine located at Hakata ward. Therefore all festivities take place only in Hakata ward of Fukuoka city.

The festival starts on 01 July and ends on 15 July each year and the history dates back to 1241. Then, it is listed on UNESCO's Intangible cultural heritage in 2016 with other 32 festivals in Japan.

Unfortunately the festival is postponed for this year and spectators only can watch the float located at JR Hakata station, the main station of Fukuoka and terminal station of Sanyo Shinkansen.
