Maihama station

Maihama station

Maihama station is located in Urayasu, Chiba prefecture on JR Keiyo line. This station is well known for gateway to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea; Tokyo Disneyresort. The station is totally devoted to TDR, has high numbers of passengers not using commuter passes.

Opened in 1988, when the Keiyo line was extended and it was called Nishi-Urayasu station(West Urayasu station) before the construction, during the planning stage. Then, JR, local authority and TDR tried to name as Disneyland station but it was rejected by Walt Disney Production in US. Therefore eventually took the name of the district.

Actually Maihama is named after Miami beach. Miami is pronounced as MAI-A-MI and beach in Japanese is HAMA. MAI(-A-MI)+HAMA=MAIHAMA!
