Hibiya park


Hibiya park, Chiyoda ward, Tokyo

Central park in New York. Hyde park in London. Hibiya park is located close to Imperial palace and not far from Ginza area. It was opened in 1903 and the area is 16.2 ha, 162000m2.


There are kiosk, cafe and restaurants inside the park and also famous Hibiya Public Hall, the oldest remaining concert hall in Tokyo. Hibiya open-air concert hall is also located here.


State funerals and state celebrations took place at Hibiya park and also demonstrations too. Most of the social movements were held at the park and infamous Hibiya incendiary incident, commonly known as Hibiya riot took place in 1905. Residents of Tokyo and its surrounding were protesting the outcome of Treaty of Portsmouth ending the Russo-Japanese war.


Hibiya park is close to Tokyo Metro Hibiya, Uchisaiwaicho, Kasumigaseki and Sakuradamon stations. The park is crowded during autumn leaf color in November.
