Dorayaki is a Japanese traditional confection which consists of two small patties made from castella type pancakes. However, the original Dorayaki consisted of only one layer. It is told that it was named after the shape looks like the Japanese instrument DORA; gong.
Standard dorayaki is a sandwich using azuki bean paste, using tsubuan type azuki bean paste which is not sieved. Current dough is similar to the western pancake but includes honey. Dorayaki are sold in boxes and also per pieces.
Dorayaki is known to Japanese as the most favorite food of Japanese anime character Doraemon. Doraemon's Dora comes from Dorayaki.
