Dazaifu station is located in Dazaifu city, Fukuoka prefecture in Kyushu. It is the nearest station from famous Dazaifu Tenmangu shrine and Kyushu National museum. This station is not operated by one of the JR groups, JR Kyushu but Nishi-Nippon Railroad, locally called Nishitetsu.
Nishitetsu is the biggest non-JR railway company in Kyushu and is listed on Tokyo Stock Exchange First section. Dazaifu station belongs to Daizaifu line which is just three stations including Nishitetsu-Futsukaichi station which is transferable to Nishitetsu Tenjin Omuta line, the main line of Nishitetsu. Daizaifu is the last station of Daizaifu line. Some trains directly run from Nishitetsu Fukuoka(Tenjin) station, the terminal of Nishitetsu.
Although it is the nearest station for Dazaifu Tenmangu shrine, which is the one of the most popular tourist attraction in Fukuoka area, it is far from city center of Dazaifu city. Therefore daily ridership depends on the day of the week and the season.
