Matsushima is a group of approximately 260 islands located in and out of Matsushima bay in Miyagi prefecture, not so far from Sendai.
Matsushima is considered as the three most beautiful views, including Amanohashidate and Miyajima. Tourists can enjoy the bay cruise and the scenery from the sea.
The islands were attacked by the huge tsunamis in 2011 but luckily damage was not so serious and attracts the visitors from all over Japan.
Matsushima can be reached from Tokyo by Tohoku Shinkansen to Sendai and change there to JR Senseki line and get off at Matshushima-kaigan station. There is another station called Matsushima on the Tohoku main line but it is quite far from the pier.
