Saitama Super Arena

Saitama Super Arena

Saitama Super Arena(SSA) is probably one of the famous buildings in Saitama prefecture, which is located in the north of Tokyo. It is a multi purpose indoor arena located in Saitama city, which is the prefectural capital and the most populated city of Saitama prefecture.

The maximum capacity reaches 36 thousand. Therefore it is the biggest indoor arena in Japan and third in the world by capacity. Saitama Super Arena is used for concerts, sports events and trade fairs. Currently there is no professional team playing regularly at this arena, big matches of MMA or boxing take place here. Then, it will be hosting the basketball games for Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic games.

Although it is the largest indoor arena in Japan and close to Tokyo, major concerts in Tokyo metropolitan area take place in Nippon Budokan rather than SSA. Nippon Budokan is considered as the most sacred place in Japan for the Japanese musicians. Their aims are to sing or play at Nippon Budokan before at SSA. However, extremely popular musicians will later have concerts at Tokyo Dome or SSA which can accommodate much more spectators than Nippon Budokan.

SSA can be reached by JR Keihin-Tohoku, Utsunomiya(Tohoku) and Takasaki lines from Tokyo. The nearest station is Saitama-Shintoshin which is just 3 minutes on foot to SSA. If you are visiting SSA for an event, better to buy your outbound ticket at the station or check your SUICA or PASMO cards if you have sufficient amount left in it before entering SSA. The station will be extremely crowded after the event.
