Amarube bridge

One of the worst railway tragedies in Japan occurred in 1986 at Amarube bridge in Hyogo prefecture.

Chartered train of JNR(Japan National Railway - the predecessor of current JR. Luckily the train was an out of service - no passenger on board) fell from the bridge due to sudden strong wind hit the train, killing the train conductor and employees of crab processing plant which was located beneath the bridge.

Now the bridge was renewed and the memorial is located at the former plant site.

I hope that this kind of train accident will never happen in Japan.
