Sukiyaki

Originally sang by Japanese crooner, Kyu Sakamoto who was killed in a tradigical airplane clash accident in 1985. This song topped the music charts not only in Japan but also other nations including in the United States, Billboard Hot 100.

Sakamoto became the first Asian artist to top Hot 100 and he was the only Asian artist till 2000. The song was the first in non-European language too and it still remains the one of the few non-English songs to reach the top.

The song is known worldwide as Sukiyaki, which is same as traditional Japanese hot pot, but the original title is Ue o muite aruko, which can be translated into English as "Lets look up when we walk". On the other hand, the English title is not well known to public in Japan.
