Yokohama is the second populated city in Japan, after Tokyo.
Due to belonging to Greater Tokyo Metropolitan area, even Japanese think that Osaka city is much populated than Yokohama.
Yokohama was a small fishing village till US Commodore Perry came to Japan in mid 1800 and asked Japan to open their doors to United States. At that time, Japan was trading just with Dutch merchants in addition to Chinese and Koreans. Dutch were granted to do the commerce between Japan by the Tokugawa shogunate due to they did sent missionaries to Japan. Japan banned Christianity due to they knew that foreign soldiers come right after the missionaries as like in South America!
